CPD Course on Individualized Management of Schizophrenia (WPA Webinar Series)

Introduction

Negative symptoms are present in more than 50% of people with schizophrenia, have a significant impact on real-life functioning, and pose a substantial burden on the affected people and their families. This webinar focuses on:

  1. psychopathological constructs currently regarded as relevant to the negative symptom dimension;
  2. the distinction between primary and secondary negative symptoms and its relevance to clinical practice;
  3. the main differences among current definitions of deficit schizophrenia, persistent negative symptoms, prominent negative symptoms and predominant negative symptoms;
  4. recommendations for recognizing and assessing negative symptom domains with the appropriate tools.

Individualised management with Dopamine partial agonists, will be discussed, with focus on their mechanism of action and important differences in activity at a range of other receptors that offer distinct pharmacological profiles at monoamine receptors which distinguishes them.
