Introduction
The World Psychiatric Association organised this webinar in Spanish on August 9, 2023 with the theme of ‘Global Mental Health and Cultural Psychiatry: perspectives, realities, and conversation from the Spanish-speaking world‘.
Dr Afzal Javed opened the webinar and spoke about WPA’s activities especially in different languages like Spanish & French.
Prof Oquendo and Prof Alarcon discussed the history and development of Global Mental Health and its relationship to Cultural Psychiatry with a special emphasis on its impact on Latin America. They discussed the benefits from and barriers to globalization of access to Mental Health care with concrete examples from various countries with differing policies and funding availability. The importance of multidisciplinary work to better serve large populations and of encouraging political will to focus on this key issue are addressed.
