CPD Course on Dementias with Parkinsonian Features

Introduction

Dementia is underdiagnosed and or there is a delay before a formal diagnosis is made. This can lead to patients not being able to access various treatments and other social and psychological support.  The course aims to help clinicians with timely diagnosis of dementia disorders.

This course was completed in August 2023 and designed for all clinicians working in the mental health services for older adults and primary care.

Most clinicians underperform in terms of diagnosis of Dementia with Lewy Bodies (DLB). Its prevalence is between 15 and 20% in late onset dementias. Diagnosis is also complicated by the fact that many conditions can present with Parkinsonian features and cognitive impairment. This module is aimed at improving diagnostic accuracy and management of this important cause of late onset.
